Another amazing collection of a cappella and percussion songs from these spiritual warriors. Twenty years and a huge roster of women later, Sweet Honey In the Rock (named for a traditional African-American hymn) still produce some of the most powerful, mature and awe-inspiring singing I've ever heard. You really must see them live.* This CD includes spirituals, blues, Civil War Negro fighting songs, originals, African chants . . . my god, they're breadth of vision is astounding. I must admit a few lyrics seem preachy in the originals, but that's such a small quibble. This is one of the best human artistic, creative ensembles on earth and has been for two decades now. It's past time you listened closely to them. (Todd Morman)
