WEDDING BELLS: "Happy Cow" + 2 (Communion) 7"
Two bands that share spiritual space if nothing else. Lambchop were formerly known as Poster Child in their Tennessee homeland. The b-side is the most precious pop fuck you'll never hear on college radio since "Yes, She Is My Skinhead Girl" or (closer to the bone) Ween's "I'm In the Mood To Move." Clarinet, wind-up toys, manic vocals . . . pure over-the-top genius. The a-side's less an adventure, guided as it is by actual band sounds: guitar/drums/clarinet. Nothing Sleepyhead fans couldn't love.
Wedding Bells probably went to the same clown camp. References to early Ween (and I'll add Jad Fair and Motherhead Bug) still stand. Weird, noodling cheese food from three guys you want to worry about. My prayers are with them. (Carrie McLaren)
