KING KONG: Funny Farm
Louisville, Kentucky's King Kong is
back with a second album to confound the indie rock world's cultural
literati. This band appreciates the simple life. Each song is a midtempo
guitar/keyboard gambol through topics like farm life and Roscoe P.
Coltrane. There are no lead instruments. Each member plays rhythm with the
result that most songs strike the same bluesy, low-key tone. The
calculated stupidity of singer Ethan Buckler's (formerly of Slint) lyrics
would annoy me if they weren't so cheesy and fun, and the music so
friendly. Here we get an indie rock fusion of the Palace Brothers and
B-52's. I suspect this would be a great album for getting high. (Pat
